Dig a hole that is at least 2.5 times larger than the root ball, and 2-3 feet deep. Fill the base with compost and nutrient rich soil up to the point where when you set the tree down, it’s base is level with the ground. Mix local soil and amended soil/compost together to fill in the rest of the hole and cover with a layer of mulch.
